I worked on this colored pencil piece during the same time I was working on "He Is." I wanted to depict what it was like to not have Christ in my life. It truly is as anguishing as it is drawn here. Instead of using myself I used a man because men in their body structure symbolize strength, capability, independence, fearlessness, etc. Yet even these strong qualities are not enough. We are broken and frail without Him.
For the life of me I couldn't get a good photo of this. It looks grainy, mottled, and rough, while in real life it is quite smooth and the tonal transitions are smooth as well. I tried to get a good photo for 3 days and I just coudn't manage to do it. So please look beyond the photo. You'll be quite pleased with the actual piece. (The watermark is not on the actual piece.)
